“I Be’s Troubled” by Muddy Waters

Muddy Waters made this record for Alan Lomax of the Library of Congress.  This was back when he was still McKinley Morganfield, a sharecropper and bootlegger down in the Delta. He’d never been recorded before.  It opened up certain possibilities to him.  Years later he’d record this same song again—renamed “Can’t Be Satisfied”—and it became his first hit for Chess Records.  Right now, though, you’re listening to a younger man who knew a little about the world, even if the world didn’t yet know about him.
