"Save the Last Dance for Me" by The Drifters

Everybody loves this song.  Shit, even Lou Reed loves this song.  But did you know that the songwriter, Doc Pomus, was crippled by polio?  He got the idea for this song on his wedding day.  His wife—an actress and dancer on Broadway—danced with one man after another while Doc Pomus sat in a wheelchair.  So he wrote “Save The Last Dance For Me” for his new bride.
