“Hang Me Up To Dry” by Cold War Kids
When I was a kid in the ’90s, it seemed like every voice on the radio was trying to sound like Michael Stipe or Layne Staley or Whitney Houston. And nothing against those singers, but you get tired of all the imitators trying to sound like somebody better. Which is probably why I’m obsessed with vocalists who have very unusual voices. Take Nathan Willett of Cold War Kids. First time I heard this record, I thought I was listening to a particularly soulful woman. His voice gives me chills.
