"Allah, Mohammed, Char, Yaar" by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

I’m a little out of my depth here, so let me quote Wikipedia:

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Punjabi: نصرت فتح علی خان ), a world-renowned Pakistani musician, was primarily a singer of Qawwali, the devotional music of the Sufis (a mystical tradition within Islam). Considered one of the greatest singers ever recorded, he possessed a six-octave vocal range and could perform at a high level of intensity for several hours.  Extending the 600-year old Qawwali tradition of his family, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is widely credited with introducing Sufi music to international audiences.  He was popularly known as Shahenshah-e-Qawwali, meaning The King of Kings of Qawwali.

Much like Bob Marley, ol’ Nusrat’s early records were laden with studio effects and Pop orchestration to make them more “accessible” to American and European audiences.  Shahen-Shah was the first album in which Nusrat exercised some creative control to introduce Westerners to the genuine article, and it’s simply beautifulEven if you’ve never heard of Qawwali music, you need to give this track a listen.
