“12XU” by Wire
The whole concept of genre is largely bullshit. Wire was around long before anyone had even coined the term “Post-Punk,” and they’re still with us now that Post-Punk has gone the way of bell-bottom jeans and Madonna’s acting career. After dedicating an evening to listening to my favorite Wire records for the umpteenth time, I’m in no hurry to slap any kind of label on these guys. It just seems beside the point.
Here’s a live Wire track from a landmark Punk compilation, The Roxy London WC2. Yes, Wire was a major figure in the British Punk scene of ‘77, and they’re captured here on vinyl alongside legendary bands like Eater, X-Ray Spex, Slaughter & The Dogs, Buzzcocks, and The Adverts. Eat it, Hipsters.
