Here in my neck of the Great Midwestern Cultural Void, we’ve got only one cool indie record store that hasn’t gone tits-up yet. It’s called Positively 4th Street Records. And working in that tiny record store there’s a young fella named Adam who made it his mission to introduce Illinois farmboys to Ty Segall. He stocks those records, and they were flying off the shelves, so he was very pleased with himself until he discovered that all those records were being bought by just one person: Me.
It’s just as well. I miss the venues and the big record stores in San Francisco, but it’s nice to go down to 4th Street every week and know that Adam will have a handful of records and CD’s for me, and he’ll want to know what I thought of the last batch. Out here in the Cultural Void, we geeks manage to find one another. We’ve got to stick together and get through this thing, whatever it is.
